well i've got this week off (before i start the new job). i need to call dave to arrange lunch plans hopefully thursday or friday will be good.
so what have i been doing for so far?
well lounging mostly. i immersed myself into champions of norrath, which is currently my favourite game (read: it's easy to play). i've so far managed to get to act iii which equates to about several months worth of 2-3 hours play per weekend (wild ass non scientific guess).
i'm still amazed by the graphics and how powerful my character is becoming. i'm looking forwards to reaching level 15 when i can finally get a skeleton to fight alongside me. i could've down with its infernal help in the last couple of levels.
anyhoo. how are you¿
gentoo's a tricky beast to get up running for someone who's used to guided installs e.g. redhat, slackware, ubuntu, etc.
after three failed attempts (including the time when my kettle cord decided to die) i finally got it running on my system.
i've written a small check list of things you need to do to get a very basic gentoo system. The kernel and start up will be very similar to the live cd (which might not desired by all).

any feedback would be appreciated.
Apologies guys the formatting is atrocious. I'll have a go at running it through htmltidy later on.

well as you may (or not) know i've been looking for a new job. i tried to switch career paths back to unix sysadmin, even as a developer but the cv wasn't friendly to either of those roles.
so this left me looking for lotus notes admin roles again. 20 (or so) applications, four possibles, two interviews later i've finally been offered a job with mizuho corporation bank!
i will blog my lessons learnt from cv finetuning, recruiters and of course the two stage interview process, but i'll say this about what got me the job.
( read more... )k i know that was a lot considering i was write this advice at a later date. but i read steve's blog and thought i'd share my job hunting/interview experience.
now all i have to do is fill out the hefty job application. get my medical (read: drugs test) screen. and i'm done. oh i've also got to hand in my notice. which i'll do on friday!
i came across backpack through lifehacker.com. it's a rather sexy web app that allows you to create a page that can store a todo list, notes, urls, files and images. the latter two not available for free users. okay so what i hear you say. well each page you create has an email address which means you can email todos, notes and files (including images) and they will automagically appear in the page. all of this can be done by simplying specifying the magic word in the subject line e.g. to add a todo i would email my page's email address and in the subject i would put: todo: brush teeth.
other cool things are the ability to flag a page as public (read only, but accessible to all via teh interweb) or share pages with existing backpack users.
i see myself using it as a way to write down ideas when all i have is just a mail client or my mobile phone. the only thing i haven't got working yet is my forwards. i would like to setup some forwards on booyaa dot org so i don't have the remember the page's email address (they're similiar to flickr's email posting method). they don't seem to work at the moment (apparently this is caused by most forwarding engines not rewriting the to field). will prolly need to ask toa about how i fix that.
yeah well anyways. it's cool and sexy. it's kinda like jotspot, only better. check it out at http://backpackit.com/
i just wanted to say that lifehacker 0wnz me.
